JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 200 new jobs will be available in Jacksonville, the CEO of Florida Blue announced Wednesday morning.

Novitas Solutions Incorporated is hiring after getting a Medicare administrative contract for 7 states. The company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Florida
...more Blue, already had a contract for 4 states and Washington, D.C.

Novitas Solutions processes Medicare claims, handles customer service inquiries, reviews and processes appeals and conducts medical reviews.

The jobs will range in pay from $40,000 - $60,000/year.  The company expects to fill the positions in mid July.  New hires will go through 8 weeks of training and then begin processing claims.  The plan is for the Jacksonville employees to begin processing Medicare claims October 1.

"With this 200 jobs coming here with a 40 to 60,000 dollar range all right here in Jacksonville, downtown, it's important and my goal is to continue to focus on that," Mayor Brown

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Clay High School baseball program is having it's best season in nearly a decade.  Recently, the Blue Devils won their first playoff game since 2003, and now they are on their way to the FHSAA Class 5A Final Four.

...more baseball team received a nice send-off from the Clay High students and faculty as they left for Port St. Lucie, the site of the Final Four.  Clay will play Ponte Vedra at 10 AM on Thursday with the winner advancing to Friday's state championship game.

Back on March 19th, Clay defeated Ponte Vedra 8-3.  The Sharks are no strangers to the Final Four as they advanced to this point two years ago.

There will be another Final Four matchup featuring two local teams on Monday when Hilliard meets Union County in the Class 1A Final Four.  Then on Wednesday, May 23rd, Providence will face Tampa Prep in the Class 3A Final Four.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed a search warrant at Fast Train College on Jacksonville's Southside.

Jeff Westcott, Public Information Officer for the Jacksonville FBI field office, said the FBI is there serving a search warrant as part of a joint
...more investigation between the United States Department of Education and the FBI.

Westcott said agents arrived shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. They were expected to be there the majority of the day.

No arrests are planned today, Westcott said. Agents are there to gather evidence.

At this time, the college will not be shut down.

WTSP, a sister station of First Coast News, confirmed that the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Inspector General is also conducting a search warrant at Fast Train campuses in Tampa and Clearwater as well.

The DOE OIG is working in conjunction with the FBI, the office confirmed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Thousands of first coast drivers are just now getting parking tickets from years ago.

Last week, Lisa Crawford received a $63 bill for an unpaid $20 parking ticket - dated September 2011.

"It was very frightening because it said it could impound my car,
...more and I look at September and I'm like, oh my God I'm on borrowed time," Crawford said.

The notice Crawford received from the City of Jacksonville's collection agency was one of 24,000 sent out in the past few weeks, according to the city's public parking officer Jack Shad.

Crawford's bill was a tiny part of $1.6 million in fines the city hadn't reported to the collection agency because they didn't realize they were missing.

"Some people were talking about how they were getting letters that the ticket went back three to five years," Crawford said.

 

The city now expects those fines to be paid.
