JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Five Points businessman is upset over a city ruling that is ordering him to remove some recent storefront improvements because they are inappropriate.

Jayson Evans has owned the Blu Hair Salon on Post Street for eight years. He recently added some aluminum to
...more the walls outside his storefront and painted them silver to " give the place some pop" and "to attract attention" he said.

"I have received no complaints, in fact the opposite", said Evans. "People have told me it looks awesome. It makes the place look better."

Jackleen Akel manages Gina's Deli next door and said she likes it.

"I don't have a problem with it, there is nothing wrong with it, to me it stands out and brings attention. It brings the customers in."

But the city has ordered Evans to take it down.

"I don't understand why they don't think this wouldn't be correct. This is an eclectic area. We have lizards on the wall on the other side of

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County's graduation rate took a hit following the calculation of federal rules now being used to determine the percentage of students who graduate in four years.

In December, the Florida Department of Education released statewide numbers that put the
...more state's graduation rate at 80%, but the federal calculation drops the number to 70%.

The federal graduation rate counts students who receive standard diplomas within four years.  The state had counted students who received special diplomas.

In Duval County the calculation change resulted in an 8% drop with the federal formula lowering the graduation rate to 63%. In December, the state graduation figure gave Duval its highest percentage ever with 71%.

Duval County school board chairperson Betty Burney was not upset with the federal formula.

"I think what they are trying to do is get everybody uniform," said Burney.

After a year-long reprieve from rising foreclosures, the numbers are going up again.

One in every 624 U.S. households received a foreclosure filing in January, up 3 percent from the previous month, according to a new report from RealtyTrac.  Foreclosure activity froze in many states
...more in 2011, due to processing delays after fraud, or so-called "Robo-signing," were uncovered in the fall of 2010.  The thaw is now on.

"We expect the pattern of increasing foreclosures to continue in the coming months, especially given the finalized mortgage and foreclosure settlement reached in early February between 49 state attorneys general and five of the nation's largest lenders," said RealtyTrac's CEO Brandon Moore in a written release.  "Foreclosure activity increased on a year-over-year basis for the first time in more than 12 months in Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania, following a pattern we saw in late 2011 in states such as California, Arizona and

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Kickbacks Gastropub is planning a large scale expansion on King Street in Riverside, but all is not going according to plan.

The Riverside Avondale Preservation Society has raised some serious concerns with the construction, and neither side is backing
...more down.

For the past four years Jymmie O'Connell has served the growing crowd at Kickbacks restaurant and bar.

"It's a little bit like Mardi Gras. Trying to get through Bourbon Street at the height of Fat Tuesday," said O'Connell.

It's so busy they can barely serve everyone who walks through the doors.

"We have a lot of people who love this place, and we just can't serve them properly because we can't expand to meet the demand," he said.

There is a plan in place to expand Kickbacks to an additional restaurant and bar, but they're getting significant push back from the Riverside Avondale Preservation Society about the already crowded parking problems on

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Four sisters are breaking their silence 10 years after they endured sexual abuse as children.

A trusted family friend is now locked up for what he did to them.

"As much as I want to say that it has not affected my life, it has. It's a huge part of
...more my life and I think about it every day," said Tasha Walker.

Walking down Post Street in Riverside, it's hard for her to look at the house she was sexually abused in for years in the late 90's.

"It's really really gruesome everything that happened there, and it is hard to look at it," she said.

Even though her attacker is behind bars and no longer lives here, revisiting the site of the attack is painful.

"Me and my sisters and brother, we were searching for that kind of relationship with an adult, someone we could trust. And our entire lives we were searching for someone we could trust," she said.

Harvey Duncan was it.
